Smith-Cotton High School senior Abby Bruce, the student director for Community Cafe, accepts a donation of $1,000 from the kitchen staff and administrators at Smith-Cotton Junior High, as well as members of the Sedalia 200 district s food service staff.
The junior high kitchen staff made Valentine s Day cookies that were purchased by junior high staff members and students; all proceeds went to the cafe, which provides an evening meal free of charge five nights a week for those in need.
Bruce said the donation is quite meaningful and shows that even in hard times like these, we can still make sure people can get a meal.
Edgar Named Bell Ringer Winner For February
Skyline Elementary School mixed-age teacher Tonya Edgar is the recipient of the Superintendent’s Bell Ringer Award for February.
The monthly award is a way for Superintendent Steve Triplett to honor Sedalia 200 staff members who put the district’s mission statement into action and those who display exemplary effort in celebrating student success. Winners are selected from nominations made by staff members and administrators.
The nominator for Edgar wrote: “Mrs. Edgar celebrates her students with RoAR awards when they get an A on a test and she sends home a poster to hang on their door when they pass their multiplication facts. Mrs. Edgar s class does a fundraiser to support our community every year. This year proceeds went to the Community Cafe.
