NP s Village Festival pushed to September | The Valley Breeze

NORTH PROVIDENCE – In part due to the “overwhelming response” from residents who want to be part of the inaugural North Providence Village Festival in Centredale, the multi-day event has been pushed back by more than a month. Organizer and Town Councilor Steven DiLorenzo, pictured, said he’s heard from so many people expressing interest in attending the community event, but they’ve told him they will be on vacation on the previously planned dates of July 30, 31, and Aug. 1. As a result, he told The North Providence Breeze this week, the event will now be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-12 after the committee charged with planning the event decided to make the change.

To NP s Verrechia, Memorial Day just another day of remembering my heroes

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Nick Verrechia says he understands that Memorial Day for many is justifiably a great and beautiful day of celebration and reminiscing, of cookouts, fireworks, and the start of summertime fun. But for him, with the memories he has of his father, as well as an uncle he never met, it’s just another day of remembering lives of men who meant so much to him and their country. Born and raised in North Providence, Verrechia, now of Scituate, said his mother was one of eight children in a family that settled throughout Lymansville. While growing up in North Providence, he said he remembers going to the town’s Memorial Day parade that marched up Smith Street, especially the part where a small band and platoon of soldiers would peel off in Centredale and march down Woonasquatucket Avenue.
