NORTH PROVIDENCE – Nick Verrechia says he understands that Memorial Day for many is justifiably a great and beautiful day of celebration and reminiscing, of cookouts, fireworks, and the start of summertime fun.
But for him, with the memories he has of his father, as well as an uncle he never met, it’s just another day of remembering lives of men who meant so much to him and their country.
Born and raised in North Providence, Verrechia, now of Scituate, said his mother was one of eight children in a family that settled throughout Lymansville. While growing up in North Providence, he said he remembers going to the town’s Memorial Day parade that marched up Smith Street, especially the part where a small band and platoon of soldiers would peel off in Centredale and march down Woonasquatucket Avenue.
