Winter nor easter results in 5 NJ counties eligible for federal aid

Above: See storm damage to Bay Head s dunes. Five New Jersey counties were made eligible for federal aid Wednesday following the White House s issue of a major disaster declaration for the winter storm of Jan. 31 to Feb. 2. The declaration to New Jersey will enable communities in Cape May, Morris, Ocean, Sussex and Warren counties to cost-share storm expenses with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, for work including emergency repairs and facility replacements. The winter storm dumped snow across New Jersey and brought pounding waves to the Jersey Shore, where the rough surf carved out beaches and dunes that towns depend on for flood protection and summer tourism.

Shotton: Outrage as dog fouling continues to blight local town

A COUNCILLOR has slammed irresponsible dog owners as dog fouling continues to plague a local town. Dog fouling has been an issue in Shotton for several years, but councillor Mike Evans said enough is enough. He told the Leader it is like a mine field on parts of the pavement, especially on Strickland Street and Clarence Street. He added: Myself and Councillor Tom Oldfield have been monitoring and reporting this for ages. It s like the Krypton Factor trying to negotiate your way around.     There are other places also blighted by dog fouling Plymouth Street just to name one and Strickland Street.
