Much more than a plane exhibit (copy)

Artist Lauri Bruce is hoping her “Pax River, More Than Just Airplanes” exhibit at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum can provide a glimpse into an area that relatively few people have ever seen. The exhibit, which consists of nine oil landscape paintings, were all painted within the confines of Naval Air Station Patuxent River in St. Mary’s County. “I thought how much more interesting would it be if I could show everybody the beauty of the base because there are a lot of places people just don’t see,” said the Tall Timbers resident. “They see the barbed wire and all they think of is airplanes. Even the people who work on base a lot of them don’t realize there’s all these really hidden gems.”

Wise Crackers Comedy Club Persists Through Pandemic Challenges

Persistence is a trait few have mastered. It takes time, energy, and experience to understand the practice of persistence. But when COVID-19 hit last spring, it was a trait that businesses like State College’s Wise Crackers comedy club needed to learn and learn fast. For the entertainment industry, learning how to adapt to the new normal of masks and social distancing was not always an easy process. Lots of entertainers are reliant on crowds to pay their bills. But they had to get creative when crowds weren’t allowed. Wise Crackers owners Scott Bruce and his brother, William Bruce, were forced to face that challenge head on, and it was not an easy road. Besides the lockdowns that happened last spring and the current restrictions still in effect in Pennsylvania, William Bruce still has some worries for the future after things start to creep closer to normalcy.
