It is snowing in new orleans right now. And that storm system moves up the coast, that will enhance the snow fall. That will bring it farther to the north and the west and everybody gets in on it. Hit cities across the deep south. Take a look. Berming lamb, alabama where snow is stuck to the pavement. In atlanta, schools and businesses closed early. More than 100 flights were canceled because of the treacherous conditions. And in mississippi the weight of the snow weighing down the tree branches there. You note what that means. It takes down the power lines and that causes widespread outages there. But even in texas, this is as far south as you can get almost in that state. Look at this. What an unusual state. Tracking dangerously cold temperatures across the area. Were talking below 0 once again. Those numbers going to continue to go down as we move through the night tonight. Winds gusting over 30 miles an hour. Leesburg up to 37 miles an hour, 33 d. C. , 29 in gaithersburg. And it is all about the wind. We have plenty of sun today. Just walking outside into 18 degree temperatures wasnt horrible if youre all covered up. Once the wind blows thats when things really kim down, and you feel temperatures like this, 5 below. The current wind chill in martinsburg 5 below, 4 below in d. C. , 6 below in annapolis. We expect to be between 5 and 15 below 0, maybe as low as 20 below in some sportts. Thats why we have the wind chill advisory between 6 00 and noon saturday. Saturday another very frigid day. Freezing, now 34, 35 degrees, that has helped us. Parts of northern virginia, we are getting reports of icy conditions out there. Looking at the roads in northern virginia, right around freezing in many spots. And temperatures may go down over the next couple of hours. Thats what were fairly concerned about from d. C. South ward. Not a big issue, most of this falling as plain r rain. If it is falling and bouncing, it is sleet. Rain is moving in as freezing rain. Yes, we are seeing some icy spots to the north and west. Heres the system itself. You can see it has snow, sleet, freezing rain and just plain rain with it. In a little bit of a lull in parts of the area, well get back as we move through the region. Look at the numbers and you can tell what im talking about. North and west, we are below freezing now.
