The Seneca County Board of Supervisors is going to have a decision on its hands this month, as it explores options to overhaul the local law that governs use of room tax collection.
The county collects 3% on rooms that are rented out to individuals, it’s often referred to as a ‘bed tax’.
However, the amendments, which made it through committees last week- will head to the full-board next week.

Wayne County is one of those in the region that shares its sales tax revenue with municipalities.
It’s an arrangement that some counties have in writing, while others do not execute. In recent months, Seneca County has began exploring it through committee- for a second time after doing so several years ago.
Now though, supervisors in Wayne County are going to examine the way it does this. The County even shares sales tax revenue with school districts, which is a major sticking point for some supervisors.
School districts receive $5.4 million out of $52.4 million collected, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

At least five people were killed after a fire broke out at a farmhouse in Ohio, US. The fire was so intense that the firefighters were not able to get inside the house to save the victims, the officials said.

The Seneca Nation on Friday requested that the federal district court stay all proceedings for 45 days in response to the United States Department of the Interior’s declaration that it has yet to review the legality of the payment provisions of the Nation’s Class III gaming compact with the State of New York.
The Department which is empowered under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act to ensure lawful gaming agreements expressed “serious concerns” about the lawfulness of any renewal period payments in an April 15 letter issued by its Office of Indian Gaming. The letter explains that in 2002 – when the Compact commenced – the Department did not review whether revenue sharing during the 7-year renewal period was lawful because the Compact terms did not provide for any payments beyond the original 14-year term.
