The Forsyth County School System opened the 2021-22 school year Aug. 9 with more than 90 percent of students opting for face-to-face instruction within the district’s 40 school buildings.
CUMMING, Ga. â The Forsyth County School system is using its third round of federal stimulus money to provide a bonus to employees, support the summer school program and upgrade air quality systems at two elementary schools.
âWe [expect to receive] about $13 million,â said Larry Hammel, chief financial officer for the district. âThat s nothing like the $242 million Gwinnett County is going to get, but it is the money we re going to get.â
In total, Forsyth County Schools has received $20.5 million through three rounds of education stimulus funding since last summer.
During a meeting of the Forsyth County School board earlier this month, Hammel said $7 million of the expected $13 million will be used to provide a $1,000 bonus for employees. The bonus will supplement the $1,000 stipend already allocated by the state for school staff for next year.
The Forsyth County Board of Education recently approved the appointment of five new principals who will assume leadership positions beginning in the 2021-22 school year.
Laura Webb named principal of New Hope Elementary Laura Webb
Forsyth County Schools recently selected Laura Webb as the principal for New Hope Elementary School.
Currently the principal at Big Creek Elementary, Webb started in education in Fulton County in 2000 as a fifth-grade teacher. She taught at Dunwoody Springs and Wilson elementary schools before serving as an elementary mathematics specialist from 2004-10. She later became an assistant principal at Dolvin and Roswell North elementary schools from 2010 to 2015.
She moved over to Forsyth County in 2015, serving as assistant principal at Big Creek Elementary for one year before taking over as the school’s next principal.
