As the province moves in with some stronger restrictions, which are shy of an actual lockdown, some good news was announced for those shaping the minds of youth.
The UCP government decided to open up eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccines to teachers, a move that has been called for since vaccinations began.

“There are mixed emotions among teachers,” explained Deneen Zielke, president of Elk Island Local 28. “They are relieved to be eligible for a vaccine but considering that no documentation of employment will be required means vaccines meant for teachers and support staff may not be available.”

It’s back to the drawing board for Strathcona County’s next major development destined to be home for more than 12,000 residents.
During the latest Tuesday, April 27 council meeting, elected officials debated for two hours over proposed changes for the Cambrian Crossing Area Structure Plan (ASP). The area in question is situated just north of the Yellowhead Highway and Sherwood Park, south of Township Road 534 and between Range Road 232 and Highway 21.

The new UCP curriculum has been marred with controversy this past week.
Education Minister Adriana LaGrange unveiled plans for a new draft curriculum for K-6 students, which would see an increased focus on financial literacy, sexual consent and European history, including expectations around memorizing lists of facts, dates, and names.

Teachers in select classrooms will start teaching some of that curriculum as soon as September, but the majority were not part of designing it.
