Woman killed in hit-and-run on Athens Perimeter after exiting car

An Athens woman was killed Tuesday morning after she exited a car that had stopped on the Athens Perimeter and was hit by a passing vehicle, according to Athens-Clarke police. The fatal collision was reported at 11:49 a.m. on a northbound stretch of the bypass between the Lexington Road and Olympic Road exits, police Lt. Shaun Barnett said. Police said Angelica Johnson, 32, of Athens died from injuries suffered after being struck by the vehicle. Officers investigating the death are faced with a double mystery. The car that Johnson got out of left the scene as did the vehicle that hit her, according to the report.

15-year-old charged with shooting man to death at Athens apartments

An Athens teen was jailed early Sunday after police said he gunned down a man during a dispute at a housing complex. Marquise Malcom, 15, was charged by Athens-Clarke police as an adult with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. during a large gathering at Clarke Garden Apartments on Carriage Lane, a complex off Barnett Shoals Road, according to police. The victim was identified as Carlos Harper, 38. He and the suspect both lived in the complex, police said.

Two people stabbed near Sandbar

Two people were stabbed near Sandbar Thursday night, according to information from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. The stabbing was a result of an altercation that started inside the bar, said Shaun Barnett, ACCPD spokesperson. The two people sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital. The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to an ACCPD press release. Â
