THE Christmas countdown has started early for one Flintshire charity who were thrilled to receive a bumper donation to start off their stocking fillers. Tesco Superstore in Mold have donated hundreds of pounds worth of toys to North Wales Superkids – who run an annual Toy Appeal at Christmas for disadvantaged children across the region. Charity founder Margaret Williams MBE visited the supermarket on Thursday afternoon to collect the toys and games worth around £250 with two of her Christmas helpers – daughter Becky and volunteer Jess Walker. The gift also included Bluetooth headphones and touch screen-friendly gloves which will help pad out the gift packs for older children. Cleaning supplies were also put in as an extra to help with the upkeep of their caravan project too.
A LOCAL funeral company is aiming to make children smile this year with a special donation. John Knowles Funeral Services, with branches in Saltney, Queensferry, Sandycroft and Rossett, is asking for Easter Egg donations after teaming up with SuperKids. Every year, staff organise an Easter Egg run and a Christmas run, but due to the covid-19 pandemic that was unable to go ahead. A spokesman said: We are working with North Wales Superkids, they work along side families that are in poverty, suffering with bereavement and job loss. Some of the stories I have heard are utterly heartbreaking. Our aim is that every child Super Kids work with gets to have an Easter egg this Easter.
A WREXHAM councillor has shared her excitement for the future with Hollywood stars now taking control at the town football club. Queensway representative for Plaid Cymru Carrie Harper has shared her delight that the Wrexham AFC takeover put forward by actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds has officially gone through. She told the Leader how, whilst swept up in the initial excitement of this news, it’s great to take a moment to reflect on the “immense opportunities” for the town and see that Wrexham is “on the up”. She shared a video on her social media page praising the Hollywood stars for their commitment to Wrexham – not just as a town, but as a wider community.
