The new owners-elect of Wrexham AFC – Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds – offered an incredible £10,000 donation to North Wales Superkids after learning about what the charity does for every corner of the region. Retired social worker Margaret Williams MBE, from Flint, founded North Wales Superkids back in 1999 which has grown massively over the last two decades.
A CHARITY aiming to bring joy to less fortunate children in North Wales at Christmas has helped more people than ever before. The Leader caught up with North Wales Superkids founder Margaret Williams MBE after a Christmas like no other due to the coronavirus. With the pandemic bringing about job losses and causing families to eat up their hard-earned savings, more families reaching a crisis point than years gone by. The charity’s annual toy appeal launched again in October with the aim of making sure no child had to miss out on the magic of Christmas due to circumstances out of their control.
CARECROWS have appeared all around Corwen recently to help cheer people up whilst also offering support for a local children s charity. Katrina Flanagan came up with the idea with the local scout group to set up the competition, Corwen Christmas CareCrows, asking locals to create unique CareCrows in aid of the North Wales Superkids charity.. Fourteen CareCrows were entered into the competition with one hanging off a wall, another in the hairdressers, shops, gardens, sides of the road and two even riding a motorbike! Some are dressed as Santa, one is the Grinch and there’s even a rugby player and a dentist with a massive toothbrush.
FOOTBALL fans have made a huge donation to a charity ensuing families in crisis have something to look forward to on Christmas Day. Wrexham AFC’s disability liaison officer Kerry Evans donated 500 gifts on behalf of the club’s supporters and the Wrexham community to North Wales Superkids earlier this week. Kerry said: “Thank you to all Wrexham AFC supporters and the Wrexham community from the bottom of my heart. I’ve been blown away by the sheer volume of donations for this appeal. Your kindness is outstanding. “North Wales Superkids is such a deserving cause, helping families in severe crisis to have a Christmas. I can’t say thank you enough.”
