SOUTHEND United have confirmed the departure of manager Mark Molesley. As was revealed by Echosport last night, Molesley has been replaced by Phil Brown who returns to Roots Hall for a second spell. A club statement said: “The club last night terminated the contract of manager Mark Molesley, together with the majority of his back room staff. “We wish to thank Mark for the commitment throughout his tenure. The board recognise the management team worked tirelessly. However, whilst considerable further support was afforded during the January window, results on the pitch remained, unfortunately, inconsistent.

Former Town boss Brown replaces sacked Molesley at Southend FORMER Swindon Town boss Phil Brown has taken over as manager of Southend United following the sacking of Mark Molesley. The former Weymouth boss led Southend to 23rd in League Two - five points off safety - with just six games remaining in the season, and the board at Roots Hall felt now was the final chance for a change. Molesley has been replaced by 61-year-old Brown who managed the Shrimpers from 2013 until 2018. He was then appointed at the County Ground two months after being placed on gardening leave by the Essex club.
