Reserves at Southend - Ipswich Town News

Reserves at Southend Monday, 5th Feb 2007 12:07 Released academy defender Luke Webster will be in action against his old team-mates today when Town s second string travel to Southend (Roots Hall, KO 2pm). Last month TWTD reported that Webster would not be offered a professional contract by the Blues. The 18-year-old is now with the Shrimpers trying to win himself a deal with Steve Tilson s club. Former Canary Spencer Prior is also in the Southend squad. Town have named Shane Supple, George O Callaghan, Darren Currie, Sito and Matt Richards in their side for a game which was originally scheduled for tomorrow. The Blues plan to use O Callaghan up front, perhaps a hint that the Irishman may be used in attack for the first team due during Alan Lee s impending absence through suspension. The former Cork City player has a good chance of leading the frontline at Watford in the FA Cup with Jon Walters unavailable through suspension.

When Southend United boss was sacked weeks before trip to Wembley

Southend United fans cheer on their side in the stands SOUTHEND United hit the headlines when they dismissed manager Paul Sturrock just a matter of weeks before he was due to lead the club into a Wembley final. The Scotsman had led the Shrimpers to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final after leading Blues through a tricky run to reach the national stadium. But, with the showpiece event taking place on April 7, 2013, Sturrock was shown the door on March 24. The decision to remove Sturrock from the position proved to be controversial, with Blues and football fans alike critical of chairman Ron Martin’s move.

Barrow AFC fall to first defeat under Michael Jolley as Southend United win battle at the bottom

The Bluebirds were bidding to match their best unbeaten record since returning to the Football League. But Portsmouth loanee Recco Hackett-Fairchild’s third-minute goal separated the two sides in a relegation six-pointer. Barrow have not won at Southend for over 50 years as the ten-man basement boys’ recent revival continued with just one defeat in their last ten league games. Michael Jolley’s side remain outside the bottom two on goal difference. Jolley made a solitary change to the side which drew with Tranmere just before the New Year. Chris Taylor came straight back into the starting line-up following the birth of his child with Harrison Biggins forced to miss the game after his sending off last time out.
