White River Wins First Girls State Championship

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Mar 13, 2021 10:44 PM HURON – Caelyn Valandra-Prue ended her brilliant high school career as South Dakota’s eighth all-time leading girls scorer and led the White River Tigers to their first girls Class B state championship Saturday, 57-37 over Castlewood at Huron Arena. Valandra-Prue, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored 23 points with 10 rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocked shots.  She ended her career with 2,536 points. Maleighya Estes scored 19 with six rebounds and also made the all-tournament team.  On Friday, Estes hit the winning shot with two seconds left in a semifinal victory over Corsica-Stickney.

Estes Sends Tigers To Title Game

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Mar 12, 2021 9:34 PM HURON – Maleighya Estes hit a jumper in the lane with three seconds remaining Friday to send the White River Tigers to the Girls Class B state championship game with a 52-50 semifinal win over Corsica-Stickney at Huron Arena. Morgan Delange had hit a tying three-pointer with 36 seconds left for Corsica-Stickney before Estes’ winning shot. Caelyn Valandra-Prue led White River (23-1) with 20 points and seven rebounds.  Valandra-Prue moved into eighth on the all-time South Dakota girls scoring list with 2,513 points.  Estes scored 14 with 12 rebounds.  Remedy Morrison added 12. White River Extends State Streak To 16 Years

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Mar 10, 2021 10:20 AM MITCHELL – The White River Tigers advanced to the boys Class B state tournament for the 16th consecutive season with a 71-52 win Tuesday over Waubay/Summit in a SoDak 16 game at the Corn Palace. Colbe Scott led White River (17-5) with 26 points, including 19 in the first half. White River’s streak is now the second-longest in the history of South Dakota boys state tournaments, bettered only by Mitchell (19 straight from 1983-2001).
