HURON – Caelyn Valandra-Prue moved into ninth on the South Dakota girls’ basketball all-time scoring list with 31 points as White River made its first state semifinal since 1992 with a 65-53 win over Viborg-Hurley Thursday in the Class B Girls State Tournament at Huron Arena.
Valandra-Prue now has 2,493 career points and needs just 14 more to move into eighth. She hit a three-pointer and had seven rebounds and five assists.
Maleighya Estes scored 15 with six rebounds for White River (22-1) and Nicole Yackley had 12, all on three-pointers.
Nevaeh Ronke scored 14 points for Viborg-Hurley (18-5).

HURON – Castlewood stayed unbeaten, White River’s star moved up the all-time scoring list, Ethan pulled off an incredible rally and Corsica-Stickney won a thriller in an exciting Thursday at the SDHSAA Class B Girls State Tournament at the Huron Arena.
Castlewood 61, Waverly-South Shore 55
Castlewood trailed by as many as seven points in the second quarter as Waverly-South Shore hit seven three-pointers in the first half. But the top-seeded Warriors rallied. Alayna Benike led Castlewood (21-0) with 24 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Mackenzie Everson scored 17.
Emily Kranz scored 19 with 10 rebounds for Waverly-South Shore (16-5), who lost by nine points at Castlewood last month.
