UP govt seeks direction to transfer all Anti-Conversion Ordinance pleas to SC ANI | Updated: Jan 19, 2021 22:28 IST
New Delhi [India], January 19 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh government has approached the Supreme Court seeking direction to transfer to itself all the petitions pending in the Allahabad High Court against Anti-Conversion Ordinance passed by the government.
The Uttar Pradesh government in an application said that Apex Court is already seized of the matter challenging the Ordinance so the petitions pending before the High Court should be transferred and heard by the top court.
Uttar Pradesh Additional Advocate General Manish Goyal in the application said that the Allahabad High Court while hearing pleas challenging Ordinance, has also stated in its order on January 18 that the Uttar Pradesh government sought adjournment of the case saying the government has approached the apex court for transfer of the case to the apex court as it s

New Delhi: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi today said that ‘love jihad’ laws serve no public interest and are only meant to be used by goons to “persecute” Muslim men.
Taking to his Twitter, Owaisi asked what “community interests” are satisfied by jailing Muslim men in such large numbers?
“These laws are only meant to be used by goons to persecute Muslim men. They serve no public interest but allow criminal mobs to now interfere even more in the private lives of citizens,” he added.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stay the Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh laws regulating inter-faith marriages and conversion while issuing notice in two pleas challenging the validity of the laws.
Refusing to stay the laws, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde said it can’t decide which provisions of the two laws were oppressive unless it hears the state governments concerned.
