It’s an annual tradition: Microsoft hosts an Ignite conference and announces a bunch of updates for Teams. The tech giant didn’t disappoint this year during its virtual conference.

Microsoft says Connect uses commonly used Teams capabilities, such as chat, meetings, app collaboration and real-time document co-authoring, all while maintaining control over how users access data and information. With Teams Connect shared channels, multiple individuals or organizations can share a single channel that all members can then access from their respective Teams environments.
Microsoft Teams Connect feature is currently available in private preview and will be made generally available later this year.
Microsoft Viva holds the greatest potential to demonstrate the power of algorithms and AI within the enterprise.
Viva Insights, for example, aims to help firms better support staff, addressing both wellbeing and productivity. The initial announcement promises: Viva Insights for individuals help employees stay connected with their colleagues and protect time for regular breaks, focused work, and learning â¦. Viva Insights can help a manager see if their team is at risk of burnout and provide recommendations like encouraging your team to turn off notifications, set boundaries in their calendar, and set daily priorities to focus on what matters most.
These are big claims. Even more so when you consider how varied job roles are within firms, and how different work cultures can be between firms (and countries). This product aims to literally shape how people feel. The potential dangers are self-evident.

At Ignite 2021, Microsoft adds new presentation modes and more to Teams

Microsoft Corp. is expanding its focus on the all-important enterprise collaboration market with a slew of updates and integrations for its Microsoft Teams platform.
The most visible new updates announced today at Microsoft’s virtual Ignite 2021 event are the new “dynamic experiences” within Teams that enable presenters to deliver content more professionally to keep participants more engaged during meetings. Overall, Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella said during his Ignite keynote this morning, Microsoft is positioning Teams as an “organizing layer” for all of the company’s productivity applications.
