Sunshine Coast residents heard the hum of the Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission Helicopter, off Mudjimba, as RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crews completed vital water winch training today.
“Water winching is the skill we need to practice the most,” Chief Aircrew Officer, Simon Gray, said.
“This is really important training for us; it means we can go out and save people in the water.”
Rescue crews braved winter temperatures, to complete annual water rescue training, in conjunction with Queensland Police Service’s (QPS) Sunshine Coast-based boat.
“At the end of the day, we want winching to be our last resort but, obviously, we need to be prepared to do it,” Mr Gray said.
He is being remembered as a âgreat mate who looked after everyoneâ.
The husband and father was part of a group who launched a menâs shed at Brooloo just three years ago.
Numabulla Menâs Shed secretary Dennis James said Mr Bowe had been with them from the start. âHe was a very personable fellow, he managed to look after us very well,â he said.
âHe was a great mate.
âWe were all shocked to hear that the accident ⦠actually involved him.
âI spoke to his wife Mary and she seems to be bearing up quite well.â Doug McCallum, Kerry Bowe and Dennis James celebrate the opening of the Tin Can Bay Men s Shed. Picture: Shane Zahner
