One-way traffic resumes on Srinagar-Leh highway

SRINAGAR: One-way traffic was on Saturday resumed on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway after closing for a day in view of weekly maintenance, traffic officials said.
Traffic was suspended on the highway, the only road connecting Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir, on Friday to allow weekly maintenance, particularly at Zojila pass, where road has suffered damage due to heavy snowfall during the winter.
However, Vijay Divas rally was allowed to ply from Sonamarg in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal to Minamarg across the Zojila pass between 1200 hrs to 1400 hrs despite weekly maintenance day on Friday, he said.
New Delhi: In his first major public intervention after taking over as the RSS joint general secretary, Dattatreya Hosabale on Wednesday made a strong pitch for the return of Kashmiri Hindus to their homeland, while strongly supporting the Modi government against the campaign to discredit it. “There are vested interests, who have launched a campaign against the government. Plenty of development is happening for which the government is making concerted efforts. People of the country should unite and make the world aware about the positive works being executed in Jammu and Kashmir , he said.
Hosabale, the newly apppointed number 2 in the RSS , said while the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A marked a historic turn in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, the priority now should be to ensure the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Hindus who were forced to flee their home because of terrorist violence.

The bust of Major Sandeep Shankla, awarded Ashok Chakra (posthumously), original Vir Chakra of Captain Jatinder Nath Sood (posthumous), a lucid write-up about Major Pradeep Agarwal, first test pilot of the Army and war bunker, are the latest additions to The Army Heritage Museum in Shimla.
“There was confusion over the birth place of Major Shankla and records were searched with the help of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) which verified that he hailed from Karwar village in Hamirpur district, following which his bust was placed in the museum. It was inaugurated recently by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Vijay Divas,” said Yashpal Mehta, curator of the museum.
