Lorraine Lucille Layton, 93, of Lewes passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, at Harrison Senior Living, in Georgetown. She was born July 22,1927, in Georgetown, daughter of the late Edward C. and Thelma (Rodrigues) Newhouse.
Ms. Layton was a lifetime Delaware resident, raised on her family’s farm in Staytonville. She attended Milford High School and after getting married, moved to Lewes. Ms. Layton enjoyed being a homemaker and embarked on a career in floral design working for McNichol Place, and then spent many years at Windsors Florist. Later in life she enjoyed working with extended family at Millmans Hardware, and there she was able to showcase one of her many talents - wood crafts. Lorraine had a lifetime passion for crafts, art, drawing, and woodworking. She was generous and kind and loved to make Christmas ornaments, wooden toys and decorations, and other intricate handmade crafts for friends and family. Joseph T. D’Amico Jr. passed away after a brief illness Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, the day after his 31st birthday. He was in California, serving in the Navy at Camp Pendleton when he became ill. He was hospitalized, but despite heroic efforts, he was unable to recover. He was an organ donor and his family takes comfort in the fact that its loss has provided a new lease on life for three others. A man in his 50s received his heart and left kidney. A 16-year-old received his right kidney, and a man in his 40s, who was at the top of the transplant list, received his liver.

Dr. William Allen Peterson, 98, of Lewes, passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, in his residence at The Moorings, Lewes.
Dr. Peterson was born in Rochester, Minn., Dec. 10, 1922. He had a long and distinguished career as a periodontist in the Navy. He served from 1942 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Army while in dental school. Dr. Peterson was commissioned as an LTJG in the Navy upon graduation and was either on active duty or active reserve until he retired in September 1983.
Dr. Peterson was a senior leader with the Boy Scouts for many years, and was a member of Rotary International for 45 years. He was an active member of his church community at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes and at his residential community at The Moorings.

Mary Beth Crafts, nee Mary Elizabeth Amend, was born Sept. 4, 1941, in New York City (Manhattan). Her parents were Edward R. and Kathryn Quinlan Amend of the Bronx.
At the age of 2, Mary Beth moved with her parents to Bayside (Queens) where she attended Sacred Heart Grammar School. Following her high school graduation from The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates, the family moved to Slingerlands, N.Y., a suburb of Albany. After receiving a bachelor of arts degree in history from the College of St. Rose in Albany, she was employed as a claims representative by the Social Security Administration, training first in the Albany District office, and then returning to Queens to work in the Flushing District Office. In 1968, she was promoted to a budget analyst position at Social Security Headquarters in Woodlawn, Md.
