Alfred Topper Matthew Davis, 84, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at his home. He was born March 25, 1936, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, son of the late Alfred Matthew Sr., and Hazel Ruth (Bibbee) Davis.
Mr. Davis graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1955, and upon graduation joined the U.S. Army. In 1958 he married his love, Lutie Ewers, in Maynard, Ohio. After his military service, Mr. Davis joined the police department in the city of Alexandria, Va. He worked his way up the ranks and retired in 1981. In the years following his retirement, he worked as a driver for the Jolly Trolley in the summer months, and then became property manager at Cape Shores in Lewes for the next 10 years before his final retirement.

Joseph (Joe Ben) Benjamin Zullo Jr., 77, of Lewes passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at his home in Lewes, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 8, 1943, in Lewes, son of the late Joseph Benjamin and Lorraine (Bryan) Zullo.
Mr. Zullo proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, Fla., and Guam. After 40 years he retired as store manager from Shore Distributors in Georgetown. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed activities with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid model train enthusiast, and earlier in his life he enjoyed skiing and riding his motorcycle. He was kind, generous and lived by the golden rule. He had fond memories of growing up on Lewes Beach at a time when he could have bonfires with his family and ride his horse Dusty on the beach.

George Edward Wyatt Jr. “Sonny, Ed,” 83, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Lewes, son of the late George Edward Sr. and Edna Wyatt.
Ed was a family man and a great friend who meant a lot to everyone who knew him. He touched many lives throughout his life and his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Ed graduated from Lewes High School in 1955, where he was the class president. He proudly served with the Pilots’ Association for the Bay & River Delaware for 44 years. In addition to his career as a river pilot, Ed was involved for many years in various Boy Scout activities. He was an Eagle Scout himself, later became a Scout Master, and spent many nights camping with his troop locally and all the way to National Jamboree. On Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, Robert “Bob” A. Waegele Sr., devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 76.
Bob was born March 30, 1944, in National Park, N.J. He was born of humble roots and held many jobs early in life - a Mr. Softee ice cream truck driver, a vacuum salesman, a Mullica Hill Volunteer Fire Fighter and many others. In 1963 at the age of 19, Bob began working at the General Motors assembly plant in Newport. He and his family moved to Delaware in 1970.
While working full time at GM, he attended Goldey-Beacom College where he earned his accounting degree. He served on the UAW representing his colleagues with fairness and dignity. It was there that he cultivated a strong work ethic. He learned to prepare taxes, became an Enrolled Agent and started a tax preparation business, Greenbank Tax Service, on the front porch of his home in Marshallton. Amelie “Amie” Sloan of Pinewater Farm, Harbeson passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at the age of 101, following a short illness. She was a proud native Delawarean, having been raised in Dover and Rehoboth Beach. Born Feb. 23, 1919, in Wilmington, Amie was the daughter of James Hall Anderson and Blanche Virden Brown Anderson of Dover.
She graduated high school from George School, a Friends School in Pennsylvania. Amie attended Barnard College and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill, N.C., majoring in history. Following college, she returned to Delaware to marry Samuel Sloan and learned to be a farm wife.” While raising her family, she spent 20 years teaching elementary school in Millsboro and tutoring homebound students all over Sussex County.
