TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - An elementary school in Tift County held a fundraising event to bring awareness to cancer research.
Northside Elementary School held its “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser in an effort to help children who are diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma.
The school raised over $2,000 and was able to raise over $1,000 in just one day.
Students who helped raise the most money were recognized and received gifts.
”It made me feel good because I know a lot of kids suffer. I’m glad that we were able to raise money to help them,” said Lakota Simmons, a student at Northside. “I would say my role was helping people and asking them to raise money for it.”

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Thereâs not one person the pandemic hasnât impacted in some way this past year.
Susan Hardy is a counselor at Phoebeâs behavioral health center. She leads group therapy sessions and says the pandemic pushed many people to their breaking points.
âWeâve had to double our services for what we provide. We also offer groups for children, and weâre adding a new teen group, as we speak,â she said.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On Wednesday, Senator Raphael Warnock and Georgia Congressman Sanford Bishop took a tour of Southwest Georgia farms to address the need for more funds.
Warnock met with local farmers and producers about how important farmers are to the Peach State. He said his number one goal is to get Washington to remove what he says are unnecessary barriers for trade and better working conditions.
The senator said it’s key to increase broadband access in rural Georgia as they continue to focus on infrastructure.

CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - A man wanted in Cherokee County following deadly shootings at Atlanta-area massage parlors was caught and arrested in Crisp County Tuesday night, according to the Crisp County Sheriffâs Office (CCSO).

CCSO told WALB News 10 that an alert was put out by the Cherokee County Sheriffâs Office for Robert Aaron Long and that it was believed he was heading towards Crisp County.
