UPGRADES to the Warwick Dragway could see the facility become home to a new burnout pad within months, finally providing hoons and car enthusiasts with a safe recreational space. The Morgan Park club was granted $1.9 million in federal funding earlier this month, most of which will be used to extend the current 1/8 mile track to the national standard ¼ mile. The massive cash injection could also see a hugely requested burnout pad included in the upgrades, which club president Chris Loy said was part of the long-term plans. The drag strip and club was originally to try and get the young fellas off the street and give them a safe environment where they could race each other without a large cost, Mr Loy said.

MOTORSPORTS: The Warwick Dragway is set to become a national-grade facility and one of the stateâs biggest racing venues, thanks to a huge $1.9 million funding boost.
After several events were claimed by coronavirus restrictions, including the clubâs massive 20th Dragfest anniversary, vice president John Loy said the upgrades would prove vital to their 2021 comeback.
âIt feels excellent, itâs unbelievable actually. Itâs a great Christmas present for the drag racing community and our whole local community,â Loy said.
âWe missed out on our 20th anniversary for the drag strip this year, so next year will be a big one, and weâll be able to host national-grade events with the upgrades,â Loy said.

The Warwick drag strip is set to undergo significant upgrades, following the announcement of close to $2 million in funding
It is one of 12 projects announced by the Australian and Queensland governments, to support local economic recovery in parts of Queensland that were hit hard by the 2019-20 bushfires.
Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said it would be a great boost for the community.
“This $1.9 million investment will upgrade the existing 1/8 mile drag strip at Morgan Park to a national standard 1/4 mile facility, which will attract larger and more regular race meets to the region,” he said.
