CEO ASSAULTED BY DISGRUNTLED RESIDENT
When Killarney man Peter Lesley Smith pleaded guilty to assaulting former SDRC CEO David Keenan, he claimed six years of ongoing tensions drove him to the act.
Smith became “agitated” during the confrontation, swearing loudly and banging his cane on the door before grabbing the then-CEO Mr Keenan around the neck in a brief struggle.
At the time of the incident, then-mayor Tracy Dobie told the Daily News it was a “very, very rare occurrence” among a community full of “generally incredibly polite and respectful” people.

MOTORSPORTS: The Warwick Dragway is set to become a national-grade facility and one of the stateâs biggest racing venues, thanks to a huge $1.9 million funding boost.
After several events were claimed by coronavirus restrictions, including the clubâs massive 20th Dragfest anniversary, vice president John Loy said the upgrades would prove vital to their 2021 comeback.
âIt feels excellent, itâs unbelievable actually. Itâs a great Christmas present for the drag racing community and our whole local community,â Loy said.
âWe missed out on our 20th anniversary for the drag strip this year, so next year will be a big one, and weâll be able to host national-grade events with the upgrades,â Loy said.
