The FAA has released long-awaited final rules for drones.
The new rules will require Remote Identification (Remote ID) of drones and allow operators of small drones to fly over people and at night under certain conditions. These rules come at a time when drones represent the fastest-growing segment in the entire transportation sector – with currently over 1.7 million drone registrations and 203,000 FAA-certificated remote pilots. Remote ID will help mitigate risks associated with expanded drone operations, such as flights over people and at night, and both rules support technological and operational innovation and advancements. We’ve teased this for a while but ANN will be returning to a daily webcast schedule right after we start 2021. which we hope will be a much better year than what we’ve just been through. With much of aviation still struggling, increasing our schedule may not seem to be all that careful a move, but the fact is that our aviation community deserves all the
ANN Flight Test Report on Pipistrel Panthera is now Complete! OK. it took a LOT longer than expected, but with a pandemic affecting so much of our industry, as well as other factors, ANN’s massive 12,000 word flight report on the 200 knot Pipistrel Panthera is now complete as a humongous six part series on the ANN web site.
One reason it took so long is the exacting standards we maintained throughout the flight and documentation period surrounding this plane. as we have for each and every one of our flight tests. With so much YouTube baloney being published by unqualified, if not ignorant, pilots (if they are even real pilots), SportPlane Resource Guide Author, and National Test Pilot School graduate, Jim Campbell, simply refused to do anything less than a thorough job documenting all pertinent aspects of the aircraft in the air, and on the ground. Tecnam is expanding the mission profile for their P2012 aircraft series with Apex Flight Academy in Taiwan, after signing a contract f
At Sun ‘n Fun 2014 ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, takes a look at the new Tecnam Astore.
Tom meets up with Phil Solomon, a sales agent for Tecnam U.S.A., and asks what’s so different about the Astore. Solomon responds by pointing out that Tecnam has been known for its high wing airplanes and this is their first low-wing design.
Solomon said that Tecnam has been known for their high-wing airplanes that are heavily used at training schools, and this airplane was intended as an upgrade follow-on to the high-wing models. He points out the larger cockpit, baggage compartment, and the unique way the sliding canopy operates.
An important issue in business aviation is called connectivity. Business flyers need to stay connected for business and Bendix King is offering some solutions.
While at the 2014 NBAA Business Aviation Convention, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, met with Jim Zanino, the BendixKing vice president of sales, to talk about AeroWave. Simply put, AeroWave is the Bendix King system that allows business travelers to stay in contact while in flight. Zanino says the idea behind AirWave was to provide Internet connectivity at a price point suitable for the benefits received. He points out that connectivity alone is not the only factor; the data plan is also important. The AirWave plan allows data block times to be purchased at a fixed cost to eliminate billing surprises. Charges against the block time only occur when the system is actually being used. A simple switch on and off starts and stops the timer for data plan use.
