The Navy announced a new warrant officer specialty designator whose job will be to operate carrier-based MQ-25 Stingray unmanned aerial vehicles, which are expected to start appearing in fleet carrier air wings sometime in 2024.
The establishment of the Aerial Vehicle Operator (AVO) warrant officer specialty became a reality Dec. 9 with Secretary of the Navy approval of the new designator. Over the next 6-10 years, the Navy will recruit, train and send to the fleet, a community of roughly 450 warrants in grades W-1 through W-5. The MAHEPA consortium has confirmed the successful proving flight of a fascinating technology aboard an Hy4 aircraft. In November 2020, the (Hy4) high 4 hydrogen powered hybrid-electric aircraft successfully flew from Maribor airport, in Slovenia, demonstrating capabilities with immense potential for the unmanned aviation segment. More than 500 people around the world have been rescued from danger by drones, according to new statistics collected by DJI. This

While at EAA AirVenture 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, met with Chris D’Acosta, the CEO of Swift Fuels, to get an update about the progress of introducing this new no-lead avgas to the flying public.
Let’s quickly review what Swift Fuels is all about. Swift is producing an alternative aviation gasoline that does not use lead. At this time, the fuel they are marketing is the equivalent of 94 octane, and it is a fuel specifically formulated for aviation that complies with all FAA criteria for use in type-certificated aircraft.
In the first part of the conversation, D’Acosta fills Jim in on the various locations were Swift Fuel has now become the standard at FBO’s. As D’Acosta runs down the list of locations, it’s obvious that this product is gaining wide use throughout the country.
While at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas in January 2017, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell stopped to look at a little drone that was design for recreational use. It is compact, has a great 4K camera, and even has add-on modules aimed at the recreational operator.
It’s called the S6 Mini Drone and is produced by Wingsland. Sales associate, Taylor Reina, gave Jim some of the background information. It folds down to about the size of an iPhone 6 and is intended to be an ideal drone for backpacking and portable use.
While the 4K camera is one of the key features, it also has add-on modules that include a searchlight, a small toy cannon that can shoot a harmless plastic projectile eight or nine feet, an Emoji display screen and an object avoidance attachment.
