CDC s Latest Mask Recommendation Prompts Mixed Responses From Hoosier Schools

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation is one of them, and starts a new school year Friday.  Superintendent Jim Roberts said the mask policy could change if local metrics get worse. The main goal this school year, Roberts said, is to keep kids in class. We re hoping that we re in school no matter what – that we are in-person learning five days a week, all day with all of our students, he said.  Roberts said other COVID-19 precautions the district has put in place, including social distancing in classrooms and limiting how many students gather in hallways or the cafeteria, will continue regardless of what mask policies look like.

Last year, amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation made the decision to start students back on a staggered schedule in hopes of keeping students as safe as possible amid an ever-changing health landscape. And while many parents, teachers, and other personnel have received their Covid-19 vaccines, we as a community, are not fully out of the woods yet.

Evansville African American Museum has new acting director, exhibits

A retired nonprofit executive, Miller agreed to fill the position after the museum s development director Jalessa Slade left for family reasons. Slade had been interim director while the museum board sought a replacement for former director Ashley Jordan, who took a job at Cincinnati’s National Underground Railroad Freedom Center last August. Miller is an Evansville native who returned to the city in 2017 after retiring from his career in nonprofits in Los Angeles. He served as director of Goodwill Industries of Southern California and worked for nonprofits for employment training and homelessness. We have some great new exhibits, he said of the museum.

Jason Ashworth announces he will run for Vanderburgh Sheriff in 2022

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  Major Jason Ashworth with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff s Office announced his campaign to succeed the current sheriff in 2022.  Ashworth formally launched his campaign Tuesday morning at the Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse. The announcement was also live-streamed on the campaign Facebook page, facebook.com/AshworthForSheriff. In his remarks, Ashworth highlighted several priorities, including hiring and training quality candidates for the sheriff s office, as well as work to strengthen partnerships with other law enforcement agencies and local organizations.  That s going to be the number one goal. is making sure that the community is the best place and the safest place to live, he said.
