You re in town now for a little while. How is Evansville treating you? Hood: Wonderfully. I actually made my selection between multiple opportunities because of the people, and obviously, it was a virtual, multi-faceted interview, but being in person has just solidified and validated who the people are in Evansville. It is really refreshing and exciting to become part of a place that is truly community and community-centered. C&P: What was your first impression of the city, its people and its schools? Hood: Incredibly committed to the work. Coming from large metropolitan areas, which is my experience and background, there definitely is a sense of universal commitment and a universal collaboration to the needs of not only students but people, but community members, and what we can do for others and how do we lead into and give to others in a way that makes them feel a part of the community, makes them feel heard and honored. Evansville African American Museum has new acting director, exhibits

A retired nonprofit executive, Miller agreed to fill the position after the museum s development director Jalessa Slade left for family reasons. Slade had been interim director while the museum board sought a replacement for former director Ashley Jordan, who took a job at Cincinnati’s National Underground Railroad Freedom Center last August. Miller is an Evansville native who returned to the city in 2017 after retiring from his career in nonprofits in Los Angeles. He served as director of Goodwill Industries of Southern California and worked for nonprofits for employment training and homelessness. We have some great new exhibits, he said of the museum.
