Northwestern to offer leadership studies minor Northwestern College will add a minor in leadership studies to its academic programs this fall. The interdisciplinary program is closely aligned with Northwestern’s new Center for Innovation and Leadership. It’s flexible to fit with most majors, including those leading to careers in business, ministry, health care, and sports and entertainment. “It ties in with the mission and vision of what the center is trying to do,” says Dr. Jason Lief, who is serving as a co-director of the minor with Dr. Jiying (Jenny) Song. “The center is a hub designed to help students think across disciplines.”

It means the four mass vaccination sites at four Iowa college campuses will go on as scheduled. Greg Christy, president of Northwestern College in Orange City, says his institution’s allotment next week is 500 doses. “With these college student now in their last month or so of class, we’re excited to get as many of them possible vaccines before they head out of the summer, wherever they may be going,” Christy says, “so our plan is to set up vaccine clinic here on campus late next week for our students and encourage as many of them as possible to participate.”

Sioux Center gains new therapy service

SIOUX CENTER—A new Sioux Center business is seeking to fill a niche within the community. The mission of Restore Therapy and Counseling created by therapists Nikki Van Ginkel and Maggie Greving is “restoring hope and healing in people’s lives through authentic, genuine and quality therapy services in northwest Iowa.” The duo have been providing mental health therapy and counseling in the area for the past 10-15 years through Seasons Center for Behavioral Health, working mainly out of the Sheldon and Sioux Center branches. “We’re excited to branch out into private practice so we could better serve our clients and the Sioux Center and surrounding communities this year,” said Van Ginkel, 39, of Rock Valley.
