Kerry County Council is denying that Limerick City and County Council got to name a greenway in Kerry. The local authority was responding to Fianna Fail councillor Jimmy Moloney, who said he’d been informed of the naming a greenway in North Kerry through a press release from the Limerick local authority. Let s all be telling happy tales now end is in sight for our long year s journey through lockdown

John Maguire, the retired garda, was sparing up this one for when our pub opens up. But he couldn’t help himself. John and his wife Breda moved in from the famed parish of Duagh to suburban Clieveragh, just up the road from me. They frequent John B’s on occasion and no nicer couple would you find anywhere. Our pub will be closed up for a year, come Monday next. Back on closing night the plan was to open up in a couple of weeks when the virus wore itself out and herd immunity kicked in. There was even a sense the rest would do us good, a bit of a holiday, do a bit of painting.

Listowel Races big gamble in High Court

Race Company director David Fitzmaurice The Company say all profits derived from hosting its race meetings should be tax-free to boost reinvestment in racecourse infrastructure and preserve the future of what is a valuable meeting to Listowel and the wider North Kerry economy. We have a chance, and we know it is a gamble. We re a non-profit organisation, and any money we get goes straight back into the track. If we must pay back loans, you must be making money, and you can t pay them back if you re not making money said Vice Chairman of Listowel Race Company, David Fitzmaurice.

Windpower goes off Kerry shore in major ESB plan

Fresh hopes of a major economic boost from the State s ambitious climate plans are blowing in the wind on the Shannon Estuary as the ESB revealed a major new prospect of generating massive power off the Kerry coast. The semi-state has revealed that it is looking at the potential of developing a massive offshore wind-farm on the Kerry/Clare coast that could ultimately land sufficient energy to the grid at Moneypoint to power up to three quarters of the nation s homes. It s being taken very seriously coming as it does from the ESB in the context of Ireland s frantic drive to cut current carbon emissions by over 50 per cent by the end of the decade.

Listowel s beloved amenities come into their own in the sun

By God, but nothing quite beats being able to get out of the house in glorious, dry, spring weather after months of wintry lockdown. Last week s first big gasp of decent fresh air would have been perfect but for the travel restrictions keeping everyone within five kilometres of the front door. Luckily for most of the people of North and West Kerry, there s no shortage of amazing spots to savour within the Level Five zone as the population hit destinations across the region with a renewed sense of just how blessed they are to call Kerry home. That was as true for the people of Listowel as it was for Dingle, Ballybunion, Ballyheigue et al; served as they are by a wealth of trails developed over recent years by the work of Town and County Councils, the Listowel Tidy Towns, local development agencies and more.
