The Brainerd Ski Loons and Rice Lake property owners will have to work out their disagreements over lake use among themselves, the Brainerd Parks Board told the two groups Tuesday, July 13.
About 50 people packed the council chambers at Brainerd City Hall Tuesday, many speaking during the public forum portion of the parks board meeting about the Ski Loons water ski team and their use of Rice Lake in Lum Park.
The cause of pre-dawn Tuesday fire that heavily damaged an unoccupied house in Maidencreek Township is under investigation, fire officials said.
Crews were dispatched at 4:01 a.m. to 225 E. Wesner Road, a single-story home about 400 feet north of Park Road, after a passerby saw flames coming through the roof and called 9-1-1, Chief Dan Miller of Blandon Fire Company said.
The home was purchased about three weeks ago, and the new homeowners, Brian Gromis and Emily Bentz, were renovating it before moving in, Miller said.

Crews mounted an aggressive attack, but the fire had too much a head start, rendering the building a total loss, he said.
