Syracuse, N.Y. The slumping Syracuse Mets picked up some major league experience on Tuesday when parent club New York acquired minor league outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations.
The 14-year major league veteran and 2017 World Series champion ranks 11th among active players with 186 career stolen bases. He has posted a career slashline of .256/.324/.376 for Detroit (2007, 2016, 2020), Florida/Miami (2008-2010, 2018), San Diego (2011-2014), Atlanta (2015), Los Angeles-AL (2017), Houston (2017), Seattle (2018), New York-AL (2019) and Chicago-NL (2020).
Maybin, 34, has played in 10 games for Iowa (AAA) this season and split last season between Detroit and Chicago (NL). He’s currently batting .103 (4-39) with one double, one home run, three RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base.

Syracuse, N.Y. Shortly after he was hired as head coach of the Syracuse Crunch five seasons ago, Ben Groulx’s phone rang.
The voice on the other end surprised him. It was Jeff Vinik, owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Crunch’s parent club. Groulx was taken aback that someone with plate as full as Vinik found time to check in with him.

Editorial: CONSOLIDATION More opportunities in the courts
Keep an eye on the pending consolidation of four Chautauqua County town courts into one.
French Creek and Mina officially merged judgeships earlier this year after home rule legislation was signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Sherman officials tried to consolidate two judge positions into one last year because of declining case volumes but had the decision overruled by town residents before both justices left the bench on their own. Clymer officials had a vacancy and are using Denis Cooper, French Creek-Mina judge, as Clymer’s acting judge.
