A DRUNK driver sat in his crashed car swilling Buckfast and shouting abuse at people on a street at 7.30 in the morning then tried to drive off when police arrived. Kris Johnstone who later confessed to boozing all night hurled his tonic wine in the direction of vehicles which had been backed-up on Gourock s Broomberry Drive by his smashed BMW. He made repeated attempts to start the car s engine but the ignition failed to engage because airbags had deployed and he was also oblivious to a front wheel having been knocked askew. Johnstone, 33, has been heavily fined a total of £1,275 for a string of offences committed in the wake of an alcohol-fuelled fallout with his girlfriend and banned from the roads for 15 months.

Police found Craig Hill who is on multiple bail orders intoxicated and staggering around on Murdieston Street. Hill, 23, was on a restriction to be at home between 7pm and 7am but his aunt had evicted him from her house hours earlier for being drunk, the sheriff court was told. Prosecutor Lindy Scaife said: It was noted that he was heavily under the influence of alcohol or drugs. His speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet and he had white residue on his mouth. The court was told that Hill was on bail for allegations of housebreaking, attempted housebreaking, attempted fraud, vandalism, breach of the peace and other claimed breaches of bail.

A FATHER found his daughter in bed with a man who was on a bail order to stay away from her. He walked into her room at their Port Glasgow home to see Andrew Tweedley asleep with the young woman. Tweedley, 30, was minutes later struggling with police and declaring: I ve done nothing wrong all I m guilty of is having a heart. He had been placed on bail 17 days earlier with a strict instruction from a sheriff not to approach or contact his girlfriend. Tweedley was also barred from entering Greenock other than for court or medical appointments. The sheriff court heard how the woman s father found the couple together shortly before 1am on February 19.
