Police, Officials Begging Criminals To Put Down Guns

AP Photo/Keith Srakocic For better or worse, criminals are going to get guns. They’re going to get them and they’re going to use them with evil intent. We don’t have to like it. In fact, we  shouldn’t like it, nor do we. Yet it’s still a fact of life. Over the last year, local officials all over the country are doing whatever they can to try and address the exploding violent crime rate. After a spate of recent shootings, the Saginaw Police Department is again beseeching residents to put their guns down. “We are again asking our community to stand with us to put the guns down and end the violence,” said Saginaw Police Chief Robert M. Ruth. He added gun violence has been especially prominent of late amongst teens.

Woman who allegedly drove car over Saginaw boyfriend faces life offense, prosecutors say Updated 3:59 PM; SAGINAW, MI A Davison woman is accused of trying to kill her Saginaw boyfriend by driving over him during a fight. In the early morning hours of March 25, Polanda L. Bennett was at her 51-year-old boyfriend’s house on Green Street in Saginaw when the two got into a fight. The dispute escalated to the point that others at the house also got involved, prosecutors said. Bennett, 42, and the others present exited the house and tried driving away in a sedan. Her boyfriend followed her out of the house, at which point Bennett drove the sedan over him, prosecutors said.

Death may have been accidental A medical examiner was scheduled to perform an autopsy to help determine the cause of death this week. While police reportedly believe Leah’s death is suspicious, authorities have said there is no immediate threat to the general public.

Family remembers teen found dead on Avoca Trail Sunday

Leah Conner was more than just a loving daughter and sister. The 16-year-old Avoca girl was also a singer and songwriter, said her father, Ian MacDonald. She played the ukelele and piano.  She was also a prolific artist and writer who devoured books. I just want people to remember the spunky, artistic, wonderful person she was, MacDonald said.  There s a hole in our hearts. Leah s body was found on the Avoca Trail Sunday morning after she left for a walk at approximately 11:20 a.m. Saturday. When she didn t return, her family reported her missing at about 4:15 p.m., according to the Michigan State Police Lapeer Post.
