The U.S. 12 Heritage Trail Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution held its annual Good Citizens Recognition Ceremony for 2021 school year recently at the Quincy Village Picnic Pavilion.
The DAR group represents Hillsdale and Branch counties and all members are descendants of Revolutionary War soldiers.
For the 2021 school year, 14 schools across Hillsdale and Branch counties participated in the Good Citizens Award. The administration at each school chose an outstanding senior who exemplifies dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
Selected students were invited to compete in the local essay contest. This year, the essay title given to the students was “Our American Heritage and Responsibility for Preserving it. The focus question of the essay was, “How do the combined actions of so many good citizens keep our nation moving forward?”

(York, PA) The York State Fair is preparing to return this summer after it was forced to cancel all events last year because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. York State Fair CEO Bryan Blair announced over the weekend that the fair is expected to begin on July 23rd. The fair is planning to host all of its normal activities and vendors as COVID restrictions in the state are lifted. (Reading, PA) Those who are searching for rental assistance in Berks County are going to have to wait for at least a week to send in their applications. Officials announced over the weekend that applications for the Berks County Emergency Rental Assistance Program are going to be temporarily delayed until next Wednesday when the portal will reopen starting at 8:00 a.m. Applications will be accepted until August 30th. Officials say the reason for the delay is to allow staff to catch up on an overwhelming number of applications that have been submitted already.
