Witness appeal after multi-car collision leaves man in hospital

Michaela Meade A Bundoora man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a multi-vehicle collision in Laverton North yesterday. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the incident which occurred on Little Boundary Road about 3.10pm. Westgate Highway Patrol officers believe a blue Holden Commodore ute travelling west on the road collided with a stationary white Hilux ute. Police said the white ute was propelled over the median strip and landed on its roof. The blue Commodore then collided with a grey Subaru, a grey Nissan 4WD and a silver Lexus sedan. A 26-year-old Bundoora man, who was driving the Commodore, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Mickleham Primary School, Mickleham Road winners in state budget

Michaela Meade Hume families are the big winners in this year’s state budget, with the state government allocating funding to begin upgrading Mickleham Road and for the expansion of Mickleham Primary School. The government has allocated $14.851 million for stage one early works on Mickleham Road. Hume council and Greenvale residents have been calling for the road to be duplicated for a number of years. The government has also pledged $13.67 million for Mickleham Primary School. Yuroke MP Ros Spence announced that the school would be expanded last October. The budget also included $556 million for the construction of 10 previously announced community hospitals, including at Craigieburn and Mernda, while $100 million has been set aside for the previously announced paediatric zones at five hospitals, including Northern Hospital.

Thousands turn out for testing

Michaela Meade Thousands of people turned out at testing sites last week, following a COVID-19 scare in the northern suburbs. A Wollert man returned a positive test on Tuesday, May 11 after contracting the virus in hotel quarantine in Adelaide. The man, who returned to Melbourne on May 4, developed symptoms on May 8 and was tested on May 10. The man travelled on the Craigieburn train line on May 7, sparking concerns that hundreds of passengers had been exposed to the virus. He visited Indiagate Spices and Groceries and Woolworths in Epping on May 8 while infectious, as well as Epping 7Eleven on May 6 and May 8.
