Bourne Selectmen Not Ready To Accept Town Administrator s Resignation

Bourne Town Administrator Anthony E. Schiavi has a little more than a month left before his resignation takes effect, but some members of the Bourne Board of Selectmen as well as the public are not ready to let him go. Members of the board of selectmen declined to vote Tuesday, July 20, on whether or not to accept Mr. Schiavi’s letter of resignation. Instead, members decided to hold off on voting their acceptance in the hope that the town administrator will change his mind. Chairman Peter J. Meier noted that people he has spoken with around town “hold you in very high regard.” Mr. Meier added that he believes Mr. Schiavi is leaving the office, and there is more work to be done in Bourne that would benefit from his experience and knowledge.

Bourne s Un-Election - Letter

This year was the year of the un-election in the Town of Bourne. The results of the latest election belie the assertion that our town government is representative of the taxpayers of Town of Bourne. I was shocked when I learned that barely more than 10 percent of Bourne’s voters participated in the election. The front page of the Enterprise this past week showed three selectmen, including Mary Jane Mastrangelo, celebrating Ms. Mastrangelo’s election victory putting her on the board of selectmen. However, she only received 1,024 votes. That is approximately 6 percent of the 15,317 registered voters in Bourne. Approximately 90 percent of Bourne’s registered voters ignored the election. Approximately 94 percent of Bourne’s voters did not vote for the winning selectmen.

Ms Gratis Elected Bourne Finance Committee Chairwoman

A change in leadership on the Bourne Finance Committee has taken place. Renee A. Gratis was named the committee’s new chairwoman during its remote Zoom meeting on Monday, June 7. Ms. Gratis takes over for Mary Jane Mastrangelo who was recently elected to the Bourne Board of Selectmen. Ms. Mastrangelo had to give up her seat on the finance committee due to her election as a selectman. Ms. Gratis had been serving as co-vice-chairwoman of the finance committee, along with her colleague on the committee, Amanda Bongiovanni. During Monday s meeting, Ms. Bongiovanni was elected to continue as vice-chairwoman. The committee voted in favor of having one person serve in that position instead of two.
