This year was the year of the un-election in the Town of Bourne. The results of the latest election belie the assertion that our town government is representative of the taxpayers of Town of Bourne.
I was shocked when I learned that barely more than 10 percent of Bourneâs voters participated in the election.
The front page of the Enterprise this past week showed three selectmen, including Mary Jane Mastrangelo, celebrating Ms. Mastrangeloâs election victory putting her on the board of selectmen. However, she only received 1,024 votes. That is approximately 6 percent of the 15,317 registered voters in Bourne.
Approximately 90 percent of Bourneâs registered voters ignored the election. Approximately 94 percent of Bourneâs voters did not vote for the winning selectmen.
