55 cr beneficiaries received food grains in May under PMGKAY-III By Nishant Ketu | Updated: Jun 03, 2021 21:12 IST New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): As many as 55 crore beneficiaries received food grains in May and around 2.6 crore beneficiaries in June under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana-III, informed Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, on Thursday. Speaking about the third phase of PMGKAY-III, Pandey said that more than 63.67 lakh MT food grains have been lifted by states and Union Territories (UTs) from Food Corporation of India (FCI) depots which is around 80 per cent of the total PMGKAY allocation for May and June.

Centre buys 33.8 mt of wheat, pays farmers ₹49,965 crore online May 11, 2021 Wheat× Meanwhile, States have lifted 15.55 lakh tonnes of foodgrains to be distributed under the PMGKAY for May The Food Corporation of India and State procurement agencies have so far procured 33.8 million tonnes (mt) of wheat compared with 24.8 mt procured during the corresponding period last year. This is already 79 per cent of 42.7 mt target set for the current rabi season, Union Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said on Monday. While around 12.87 mt procured have been procured from Punjab, 9.49 mt and 8.07 mt of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, respectively. Uttar Pradesh, on the other hand, contributed around 2.01 mt and Rajasthan’s share has been 1.17 mt.

The NFSA beneficiaries are used by the government to provide more than 81 crore people with ‘highly subsidised foodgrains’ through the public distribution system (PDS).
