What happens if Tracy Brabin does win?
If elected as metro mayor for West Yorkshire she will enjoy powers and resources similar to those of Greater Manchester’s Andy Burnham, Sheffield City Region’s Dan Jarvis and Tees Valley’s Ben Houchen.
The devolution deal signed by West Yorkshire’s five council leaders last March includes control of a £38m per year ‘gainshare’ fund for the next three decades as well as access to other funding streams previously held under lock and key by central government.
Within a few months of taking power the mayor will have control of the £63m adult education budget, meaning they can decide where to prioritise funding to help people aged 19 and over into jobs, an apprenticeship, traineeship, or other further learning.
Former Coronation Street actress turned Labour MP Tracy Brabin has been elected as the first West Yorkshire mayor.
Ms Brabin, who will now stand down as Batley and Spen MP, received the most first and second preference votes, with a total of 310,923.
She beat second-place candidate – the Conservative’s Matt Robinson – by 101,786 votes.
Ms Brabin, who won the contest on her 60th birthday, becomes Labour’s 11th candidate to claim a mayoral post – after 13 elections in cities and metropolitan areas across England.
She was elected to the House of Commons in a 2016 by-election, following the murder of Jo Cox.
Ms Brabin, who wore a red trouser suit with a co-ordinating face mask featuring a map of West Yorkshire, said it was a “historic day” as she became the first female metro mayor in England.

Its set, a semi-realistic ramshackle street inspired by real-life late-1960s Harlem, served as an anchor for a kind of groovy learning variety show for kids, featuring neo-psychedelic animated segments in which numerals and alphabet letters danced and squiggled across the screen, not to mention a full neighborhood of performers both human and Muppet that, for lots of kids, would come to be a de facto family.

In her recent appearance in the 98.1 WOGL 7:40 Celebrity Lounge, Holly Robinson Peete caught up with show host Glenn Kalina. For her recent project, Holly is set to play Belinda Billie Blessings in Morning Show Mysteries set to arrive in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on May 23rd.
Holly recalls living in Mount Airy in North Carolina when she was younger and has been around television for most of her life. While they were still around the Philly area, her father Matt Robinson, found out that he would be signing up as a producer as well as the first actor to portray Gordon Robinson on the PBS TV show Sesame Street. Aside from his producing/ acting role, Matt Robinson also voiced the puppet Roosevelt Franklin.
