So yes, the documentary “Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street” is an unabashed love letter to the first 20 years of the most influential, most beloved and most enduring children’s program in television history, and why not? Nobody wants to see an expose ripping the lid off Oscar the Grouch’s trash can to tell the real story about the longstanding feud between Bert and Ernie and the ugly truths about Big Bird’s prima donna behavior, and I’m just kidding, none of that ever happened! By all accounts, Big Bird was a real sweetheart to work with, and Bert and Ernie got along just fine off set.

NHS worker Elinor Hewitt, 35, says the bus system in Leeds needs massive changes .
Ms Hewitt, her husband and their children use the bus from their home in Seacroft to St James Hospital every day. We have to be really regimented in making sure we are up and out of the house an hour before we need to be at school and work, for a two-and-a-half mile journey, in case the bus we want doesn t turn up, she says.

There was a telling moment on the local election campaign trail in Gloucester this week when Boris Johnson was asked if he knew who the West of England mayor was.
Waffle ensued. Johnson – who once said that as the first prime minister since Clement Attlee to have been a mayor, he knew the “the transformative potential of local, accountable leadership” – evidently did not know that since 2017 the Conservative party’s Tim Bowles has been the “metro mayor” of the region he was visiting.

“Sesame Street” was potent stuff, especially if you were a little ankle biter during the show’s early days in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Proust can keep his madeleine. I’ll take the Martians trying to figure out the telephone, and all of those insanely catchy ditties whose purpose was to teach you how to spell and count. Any of the above can zap me back to early childhood in seconds flat.
