Rakesh Singh, an
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).
The post was vacant after
Ajay Seth was appointed as the
Economic Affairs Secretary by the
Union Government.
Singh’s posting could be on a temporary basis as Seth is expected to immediately take charge of the new post in New Delhi.
Rakesh Singh is also the Additional Chief Secretary of
Water Resources Department and the
Urban Development Department. He is also the administrator of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Much to the relief of bus users, the
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has no plans to bulldoze the city’s first bus priority lane (
BPL) which was rolled out on the
Outer Ring Road (
ORR) a few months ago. Officials said the dedicated lane of buses between KR Puram and
Central Silk Board would be retained as much as possible when the construction of Metro begins.

About 35 per cent of the passengers have returned to using Metro services provided by the
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) compared to the daily 4.5 lakh ridership recorded during the pre-Covid days. On average, 1.55 lakh people travelled every day on the green and purple lines in February, which is the highest ever since the
BMRCL resumed operations in September last year. Officials, however, have no immediate plan to re-introduce the token system.

Pedestrians will not be able to jaywalk across the medians below the Metro viaducts that have come up on the middle of several busy roads in the City. The
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (
BMRCL) has started work of installing
grilles on the medians of the 42-km Phase I network, following complaints that people are risking their lives to cross the road by jumping on the medians. They are also installed to protect greenery.
