In a rare feat, the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps at Ozark High School won four national championships in a single year.
The first JROTC national championship was won at the end of February and the final two were in early May.
JROTC Raider instructor Maj. Danny Cazier said there are more than 3,400 JROTC program eligible to complete including at least 1,700 Army JROTC programs.
“A national championship is an incredible achievement, Cazier said.
“Achieving simultaneous national championships in a single sport is also extremely uncommon. Achieving simultaneous national championships in different sports is even more rare. Simultaneous national championships in three different sports is almost beyond belief. Achieving four national championships total in a single year is just surreal.”

BATON ROUGE - Six high school and college students have been awarded scholarships designed to expand their health and wellness career opportunities.
The scholarships, given out by The Baton Rouge Clinic and the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition, amount to a total of $50,000. A panel of BRC representatives and BRYC members reviewed 38 applications before selecting the following recipients:
Destiny Caldwell, Scotlandville High School senior
Tarralyn Clark, Emory University sophomore, Biology
Katelyn Guillory, Southern University junior, Nursing
Elissa Henderson, Southeastern Louisiana University junior, Biology
Olivia Martzke of Buena Vista was named the High School Youth of the Year by the Chaffee County Boys & Girls Club.
Martzke was named alongside Youth of the Year Kuper Banghart of Salida and Middle School Youth of the Year Aberlyn Leon in April. The annual recognition program is now in its 16th year.
âOlivia was awarded the High School Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Club because she makes everyone at the club see the best version of themselves,â said BGC director Brian Beaulieu.
âShe is a Spark Fitness coach to dozens of kids, and her ability to relate to all youth, from elementary kids to teenagers makes her a leader every day,â he said. âShe is kind, helpful and an inspiration to our members and staff. This was one of the most challenging years for everyone, but kids helping kids made it one of our best!â

The Old Rochester Regional Debate team has brought its season to a close, with a number of members placing well in competitions.
The 25 students on the team debated over zoom against 15 other schools from across the state.
“Debate has been my favorite club these past four years,” said Senior Co-Captain Emma Vivino of Marion. “While it was sad to have my senior year be a virtual debate season, I feel so lucky to have been able to work with the wonderful members of my debate team.”
