A mob of over 200 persons pelted stones on a police team in which five police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, were injured and a few police vehicles, a fire tender and an ambulance were damaged near Melur in Madurai in the early hours of Tuesday.

CHENNAI: The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu on Sunday promised the provision of free houses through the Amma Housing scheme to all those who do not have a house at present. While in rural areas, the government will identify housing sites and build concrete houses for free, in urban areas it will construct residential apartments for the homeless on government land.
