Middleboro s Burkland School has a new assistance dog named Prince

MIDDLEBORO  Prince the Labrador retriever, who works as an assistance dog at Henry B. Burkland Elementary School, has only been on the job for a few weeks, but he s already popular.  On a late Friday morning, a class of first graders huddled around him the moment he reached the playground and asked if they could pet him. They remarked how soft he was, called him a good boy and asked his handler, adjustment counselor Erin Doak, if they could have him as their pet.  He just puts smiles on everyone s face, she said. To me, he s definitely doing his job.  

Gerald D Ciarcia, 95

May 7, 2021 Gerald D. Ciarcia, 95, passed away on April 23, 2021.  He was born in Warerbury, CT on May 13th, 1925.  He earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Hartford Seminary and served Congregational Churches in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut. To enhance his public service career, he went on to earn his M.A. degree from Assumption College to later serve on the staff of the Mass. Rehabilitation Commission.  During retirement, he joyfully served in libraries and Councils on Aging in Florida and Massachusetts as leader in U.S. and world history and opera groups. His pen and ink pictures and stationery are popular in the Cape region and throughout New England. He delighted in doing the hundreds of pictures of small towns and meeting the friendly villagers in each.

(WBZ NewsRadio) Following the recent increase of violence in Northern Ireland sparked by economic agreements related to Brexit, a house foreign affairs subcommittee is reaffirming U.S. support for the Good Friday Agreement. This recent violence stopped many of us in our tracks, myself included, said Massachusetts Congressman Bill Keating. He chaired the hearing held by the subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment and Cyber. The hearing centered around the longstanding impact and importance of the Good Friday agreement, especially now. Keating said with Brexit in the rearview mirror, Northern Ireland is now seeing the fallout.

Brockton COVID vaccines: Bridgewater State, Shaw s Center are clinics

Brockton s Shaw Center COVID-19 vaccine clinic is now open to surrounding towns and Bridgewater State University will open as a regional vaccine site next week.  The change comes after Gov. Charlie Baker announced this week that four of the state s seven mass vaccine sites would close by the end of June and doses would go to regional collaboratives, local clinics and disproportionately affected communities. “Our local communities deserve safe, convenient COVID-19 vaccine access and the new BSU site will be a welcome addition to the existing locations in our region,” Sen. Marc Pacheco, a Taunton Democrat whose district includes Bridgewater, said in a statement. 

Berkley colon cancer: Christina Demoranville on Jimmy Fund Team Lynch

BERKLEY Town resident Christina Demoranville is triumphant.  She s beaten back colon cancer and is now determined to inspire those who share her second diagnosis  a predisposition to get cancer again because she has Lynch Syndrome. That s why she ll be walking in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Oct. 3. Her journey from diagnosis to inspirational leader started last year.  A bookkeeper at her husband s machine shop in Middleboro, she started having bad, excruciatingly painful stomach pains. She thought it was simply either colitis or Crohn s disease and scheduled a colonoscopy at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.  Her mother was to pick her up to drive her home. Instead, doctors brought her mother into the room when they informed her a tumor had been detected.
