The town of Abington is a partner in a regional COVID-19 vaccination site on the campus of Bridgewater State University, which began offering vaccinations to the public May 10.
In addition to Abington, BSU has partnered with the towns Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Easton, Halifax, Middleboro, Plympton, Raynham and West Bridgewater to ramp up staffing and capacity at the university’s site.
The Kelly Gymnasium on 45 Park Ave. is the location of the site where nursing staff will administer up to 750 vaccinations a day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. five days a week to the public.
Brockton s Shaw Center COVID-19 vaccine clinic is now open to surrounding towns and Bridgewater State University will open as a regional vaccine site next week.
The change comes after Gov. Charlie Baker announced this week that four of the state s seven mass vaccine sites would close by the end of June and doses would go to regional collaboratives, local clinics and disproportionately affected communities.
“Our local communities deserve safe, convenient COVID-19 vaccine access and the new BSU site will be a welcome addition to the existing locations in our region,” Sen. Marc Pacheco, a Taunton Democrat whose district includes Bridgewater, said in a statement.
