MUMBAI: A senior citizen jumped to his death from the eighth floor of a high-rise at Malad West early on Tuesday.
The 70-year-old man was suffering from clinical depression since August 2020 and was taking treatment from a psychiatrist. He did not leave behind a suicide note.
The elderly man lived with his son s family at a high-rise in Shankar Lane. Around 6.45 am, he left their apartment on the seventh floor and went up to the eighth floor which is a refuge area. There, he sat on a chair on the edge of the floor. A neighbour had spotted him going upstairs and had alerted his son. But before his son could reach upstairs, the elderly man stood on the chair and leapt off, said a police official.
