MUMBAI: A senior citizen jumped to his death from the eighth floor of a high-rise at Malad West early on Tuesday.
The 70-year-old man was suffering from clinical depression since August 2020 and was taking treatment from a psychiatrist. He did not leave behind a suicide note.
The elderly man lived with his son's family at a high-rise in Shankar Lane. Around 6.45 am, he left their apartment on the seventh floor and went up to the eighth floor which is a refuge area. There, he sat on a chair on the edge of the floor. "A neighbour had spotted him going upstairs and had alerted his son. But before his son could reach upstairs, the elderly man stood on the chair and leapt off," said a police official.
