AMHERST Full-time, in-person instruction is anticipated at public schools in Amherst and Pelham this fall, while face coverings are likely to be required for students and staff when they are in the buildings, according to a letter Superintendent Michael Morris sent to families this week.
In the message sent to the public school community Tuesday, Morris gave a preliminary update in advance of the Aug. 30 first day of school indicating that measures aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19 and variants, used when buildings reopened in the spring, remain in place.

EASTHAMPTON When the city’s public health nurse, Amy Hardt, created a COVID-19 dashboard in March, just under 6% of eligible Easthampton and Westhampton residents had been vaccinated against the virus, and Easthampton was in the state’s second-highest risk category for COVID-19 transmission.
Over the months, Hardt’s weekly updates have shifted into a more optimistic picture: In a Tuesday morning update, Hardt reported that just three confirmed cases of COVID-19 had been recorded in Easthampton throughout June, all of which were mild. Meanwhile, 65% of eligible Easthampton and Westhampton residents are fully vaccinated, while 73% are at least partially vaccinated.

AMHERST Families of students who attend the Amherst, Pelham and Amherst-Pelham Regional public schools are up to date on how well ventilated classrooms are in the six district buildings should in-class learning resume, according to School Superintendent Michael Morris.
